Mitsubishi Rumblings…
April 15, 2008
What have you heard..?
Because we heard that Dallas-based agency Temerlin-McClain may be scooping up Mitsubishi from BBDO West.
Last year, TM merged with Seattle’s Sedgwick Road and scored the American Airlines account.
So… any truth to the rumor? Go ahead and chime in.

TMs had AA since the Wright Brothers were around — it had nothing to do w/Sedgwick Road acquisition…plus, who cares about Mitsubishi, they’re close to dead.

Mitsubishi is almost one of the largest industrial concerns in Japan, second to Kawasaki. They ain’t dead.

It will be Ignited Minds, Marina del Rey.

They were a close second when BBDO won the account a few years ago… it could either be legit, or be wishful thinking after the race for the account last time.

AC – this isn’t for the Japanese portion, it’s for the US and that brand is dying here…grant you it isn’t dead yet, but it’s invisible and irrelevant due to crap product…see the following from BusinessWeek

they’re pissed off at holding companies after bbdo. 5 agencies advanced to the second round (not mine unfortunately) and ONLY ONE of them is part of a holding company. they made a huge deal out of digital and retail capabilities in the RFP, so look for someone who does that. and they want someone with an LA presence or a willingness to build a strong presence their if they should win the account.
all those things combined, narrow the field pretty significantly. maybe mckinney??? they had audi before Venables.

Any IPG shop would have to get approval from GM before they could get another automotive account. This is in the contract GM makes each agency sign. It would be odd for GM to approve this one.

Hello? “…there agency”?. “…strong presence their”? Man, I hope none of you are writers.

It’ll be Ignited Minds. They’re an independent agency, strong digital work, and retail galore with their collateral and events work. Just hope they can handle the business. They’ve only done small stuff to date.
