Wendy’s Profit Up But The Slogan Still Sucks
February 5, 2008
If you recall, Wendy’s changed it’s advertising to reflect a shift in the fast food chain’s strategy. CEO Kerrie Anderson said that,
“This evolution of our advertising approach is based on extensive consumer research over the last eight months, working in close collaboration with our agency partners and our franchise advertising committee.”
Maybe she spoke to fast? Wendy’s posted fourth-quarter earnings more than quadrupled from a year ago. Yet, the chain fell just short of Wall Street’s per-share expectations. Still, Wendy’s should very pleased indeed. Hope that the new tagline “It’s Waaaay better Than Fast Food” and positioning can keep those numbers up. We doubt it, but good wishes nonetheless.

Where’s the beef? It’s been a quarter century since Wendy’s had a great advertising campaign.

Hey Sexy…
Why the love fest with Wendy’s? I know you’re a big Domino’s pizza fan, but what is this obsession with junk food… Or are you now into Taco Bell, Fiesta Platters, ‘cos you fancy the marichi guy… “Ola!”

a few words about the newest celebrity spokes-cartoon, WENDY…
could be cute. could be engaging. could be motivating. but, as executed, it’s like rather flat, pedantic, infantile and humorless.
the opportunity to make a this character fun, funny, and ironic has been totally missed. poor WENDY comes across as the product of a junior-team-created animatic circa 1970— with NONE of the irony that might exist in such a notion.
with some minor adjustments- like sharper writing and a FAR more interesting, aptly character-istic voice, this WENDY could be the new geico gecko.
alas, missed opportunities seems to be k+b’s stock in trade. let’s hope for their sakes that their new rash of clients don’t leave after the first act– as so many of their clients have been known to do.
the funniest thing about k+b is their ancient-historical work, and their website. “serious chutzpah?” indeed. maybe drop the “serious” and make it “smart.” what d’ya think, guyz?
if only their “bite” were half as resonant as their “bark.”
