Josh, Paul And 28 More Lose Their Shirts At Leo Burnett Chicago
January 18, 2008
Leo Burnett let go of 30 staffers yesterdays. The agency is saying they are getting ready to plunge into yet another new organizational structure. The Chicago Tribune’s sources are saying that Josh Denberg and Paul Hirsch, (CDs who caome from Goodby in 2002) are getting the axe now that Washington Mutual is no longer with the shop.
That’s two of thirty. Not sure who else lost their desk. To all those who did, so sorry.

[...] the Jolly Green Giant for heavens sake…. To make matters worse, we had to find out from Agency Spy rather than from our Mods here….. in other words they didn’t know.. or couldn’t [...]

It’s amazing that they let Josh and Paul go but kept some of the people they did. Those guys were the best and most creative cd’s in the agency. I wish them well.
How can they keep those clowns (Dom, Bill) on Nintendo and even John Condon, who I hear is really doing a wonderful job of running that place into the ground?
Really not a good move Leo. Might be time to take the name off the door.

I’m fallen into the habit drinking a shot for every typo I find in an Agency Spy post. Bad decision, at least for my liver.

So drunk from typos I’m making them myself. Go ahead, make fun of the alcoholic.

Josh & Paul were wholly or at least partially responsible for losing three big pieces of business at Burnett. Its shocking that they kept their jobs as long as they did. Some of the highest paid creatives in town. They were known for stealing ideas and pissing off clients. Lets face it, the WAMU work sucked–about the only thing I’ll agree with Lazare on. If the ex burnetter who previously posted were a little more in touch he’d know that Bill Stone of “those clowns (Dom, Bill)” was also let go during this recent purge. The real news is that no one, including top management is talking about how the creative department has been hemorrhaging talent–20 people have quit in the last 6 months. Its been three years since Rich Stoddart and John Condon took power and things have only gone from bad to worse. Could be because Stoddart and Condon are much more interested in philandering with account girls and ad school students than actually doing any work. Not sure if the name will be taken off the door (an homage to a famous and quite moving Leo speech from back in the day) more like Leo Burnett will become Publicis Chicago or better yer ARC/LB Chicago.

the creative department at Leo Burnett is the most negative department in the agency, if not the entire city of Chicago…the culture/creative department hasn’t recovered from the Cheryl Berman years…not one GCD is a leader, or even knows how to run a piece of business…It’s amazing more clients haven’t left the building…IF you go back over the last ten years, the creative department has gone from 300 strong (if you include the MARLBORO group) to roughly 50 people…they have no training program for juniors…Management has asked people to SMILE more while walking around the office…people live by the credo – the beatings will continue until moral gets better…everyone is looking for another job, but the city of Chicago is bone dry…get out…get out now…If you are a client, beware…you’re wasting your money…enjoy shutters while you can…the wall is crumbling
