Everyone can stop speculating. Jan Jacobs and Leo Premutico, former ecds at Publicis Groupe’s Saatchi & Saatchi, have opened up their own shop. Backed by WPP Group, the new agency is to be called Johannes Leonard and located in downtown New York City.

Jacobs, an art director, and Premutico, a copywriter, last worked beneath Tony Granger who has also recently left Saatchi. WPP chief Martin Sorrell contacted the two with the opportunity to strike out on their own. Um… bravo to Sorrell for recognizing talent and taking a risk. “Martin got in touch with us. That was kind of it. We really want to do something to follow our dream. And this is it,” said Premutico in AdWeek.

The new agency is going to attempt to straddle the line between a digital and a traditional shop. Difficult, but possible. Jacobs said, We’re not here because of the Internet is [sic] and we’re not an advertising agency. There’s an opportunity for people who understand how to brand clients and create interesting work that acknowledges what is going on in media landscape.”
