The Never Ending Web Page
November 1, 2007
Poke London has created a never ending web page for their client Orange, one of the largest mobile communications companies in the UK. Titled “Good Things Should Never End” the site was created to promote the “unlimited products” in the brand’s online shop. Cute idea, but it’s not really a never ending web page. You see (and if you aren’t into geekiness in all it’s lovely glory, we suggest you move on to the next post), what’s happening here is a trick of dynamic javascript that pulls information out of a database and adds new random content at the bottom of the current frame from a pile of scripts (the flowers, the hidden games, the pictures, etc.). You reach the end of the never ending web page when your browser crashes. When we paused from active engagement with the site to answer the phone, the screen would lock. We’re guessing that’s because at some point, even our new Powerbook graphics card couldn’t cache all that heavy stuff.
Don’t get us wrong. It’s lovely. We like the ingenuity. See it here.
