A German satirical magazine called Titanic has published a spoof print campaign featuring photographs of products being advertised by missing British toddler Madeleine McCann. Created in the style of German supermarket adverts, which typically include multiple products, the work is credited to Thomas Hintner, one of the magazine’s editors, and Martin Sonnenborn, a former editor. The double page spread includes the warning that anyone who sees her endorsement might think it is an invitation to take the prodcut for free. Editor-in-chief Thomas Gsella said: “So far no one has complained about the collage. We hope that everyone will find it as funny as we do, because it doesn’t go against the little girl, but against the media fuss.”

Uh-huh. Well the Daily Mail is complaining.

Don’t get us wrong. We loved old issues of MAD magazine or Spy. Hell, we used to write for Vice, but this? This is bad form.

“We hope that everyone will find this as funny as we do?” Are you freakin’ kidding me? Assholes.

this is kind of tame for titanic. once, after a politician was found dead in a bathtub, they pasted the head of a rival politico into the pic, wrote “that’s not funny, sir!” below it and made it their cover. major stink back then.
