Why? Because they are making a statement against animal cruelty. Everyone in the media business knows that anything bold and fresh will get people talking. Whether you hate the ads or love them, it’ll put the word PETA in your mouth, helping to spread the word. Team that up with nudity and celebrity, people will be talking all over the states and PETA’s mission will be heard. The business of furs is insanely inhumane. Do some reading rather than just ranting!

Using Steve-O will put PETA on the radar of people who never thought about it before. folks may not follow his lead, but it will indeed create mindshare. Plus this makes the brand look more playful and openminded – while i have respect for what they do, they can come off as kinda sanctimonious. People pay attention to a tatted nude crazy man.
Alicia Silverstone? not so much….

I agree with dailybiz! His legs aren’t bad, though. I don’t think anyone will pay attention to a nude, tattooed crazy man. He’s certainly not the caliber of celebrity to get people talking all across the country! PETA’s mission has been heard…over and over and over and over again.
IMHO, what detracts the most from PETA’s goals is not that they haven’t been heard. The main problem is simply that their radical behavior and extremist ranting turns people off. A person who’s had his $50,000 sable coat splattered with red paint isn’t likely to look favorably upon (or listen patiently to)the people who destroyed it. And no one likes to be shrieked at.
I’m not being pro-fur or anti-fur here–though anyone who walks around in a tiger-skin jacket deserves to be shoved face-first into a giant paper shredder.
