Check out this recruiting video for the Fuse agency in St. Louis. The hip-hop song at the end is an original work all about what it takes to be in the ad game. Our favorite lyrics include:

“Can you create ads? I can create much more, I’m gonna break you off like it’s 1984…”

“If big agencies your thing, you need not apply…”

“I still produce hot shit, while you sitting in the corner on some take off shit…”

“I keep doing my thing, let my nuts hang in this motherfucking ad game…”

Okay not a lot of women in this video (ah, but this is the ad industry), but at least these guys are just out there with who they are and who they want to hire. No irony. No lies about how the ad industry is all about picking up hot chicks and flying to Miami. It’s refreshing in some ways.

Fuse has been around since 1997, has won numerous awards and the founder, Cliff Franklin, is also totally unafraid to speak out about the color divide in the industry. Read some of his thoughts here in response to Tiffany Warren’s piece on AdAge about why minorities leave the business.

lmfao – but in a good way. All my plannin’ pimps up in here. And so forth…

I really should read those back stories before I say something stupid. Oh, wait…

  4. Dez Says:

The video was shot in 2000. The fellas was just screwing around making light of some of the wack crap that goes on in the industry. The agency got a great response from the video. Was just keeping it fresh (for 2000).

The Ad game is tough, but even more so if you are African American. We decided to not get caught up in a game we couldn’t win and decided to not conform to the marginal status that the industry has for black agencies. If you note, the ANA has their conference this week. The ANA Multicultural Conf is in November. Go figure.

just went to their site. they really, really like using video over there. and although i applaud efforts to market to any specific group, i think the creative work is worthy of local addy work and that’s it.
