Happy Birthday Mom!
October 4, 2007
It’s our Mom’s aka MediaBistro’s, b-day today. Ten years. Wow. In honor of the bon anniversaire, Mediabistro has decided to host its first annual awards, The Golden Boas. Boas are sort of the mascot for founder Laurel Touby (pictured above) – who’s now way, way rich bitch. Anyway, ten people in the media/communications fields (including advertising) have been selected for top honors:
Book Publishing — Jane Friedman, President & CEO, HarperCollins Worldwide
Design — Luke Hayman, Partner, Pentagram
Photography — Tyler Hicks
Advertising — Scott Goodson, StrawberryFrog. He seems happy about it.
Interactive — Craig Newmark, Craigslist
Magazine — Adam Moss, Editor-in-Chief, New York
Newspaper — Dean Baquet, Washington Bureau Chief, The New York Times
Public Relations — Ken Sunshine, Sunshine, Sachs & Associates
Radio — Adam Davidson, Correspondent, International Business and Economics, NPR
Television — Stephen Colbert, The Colbert Report
View the press release here. We’ll be getting drunk tonight at the awards show for sure. And catch this – winners are actually coming to pick up that golden boa including Adam Davidson, Craig Newmark, Adam Moss, Luke Hayman, (a tentative) Stephen Colbert and actually… we’re not sure about Scott. We’ll see…

I heard an interview with Laurel on Jean Chatzky’s show on XM radio, and she was awesome. It was cool to hear about how she started the site and got people interested in investing in her idea and advertising on the site.
