The Olympics Will Prop Up Television Dollars

The 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing is set to cause a boon in broadcast advertising dollars taking the spend to $182.4 billion next year, up from $169.9 billion this year, according to ZenithOptimedia. Television is expected to take 38.2 percent of the global advertising market in 2008, despite the fact that the medium is losing market share in North America and parts of Europe.
As for the internet, advertising expenditure will increase by 85 per cent between 2006 and 2009, according to Zenith and global internet advertising spend is forecast to be $33.7 billion in 2007 and $41.6 billion in 2008.
