BBH UK Sells The Same Old Tired Dream To Little Boys
October 3, 2007
Here’s the new BBH UK recruitment video. Yes, yes… most of these things offer up kids talking about their bloody future. Yawn. The teacher goes around the room and asks the students what they want to be. One little boy goes on ad nauseum about wanting to grow up and fly to Miami for parties, have a famous footballer love his work and get candy bars delivered to him at 3 am. Doesn’t that sound like our favorite creative director over at Berlin? So, then the teacher turns to the girl next to him and asks what she wants to be when she grows up. What does she say?
“His girlfriend.”
Excuse our language, but BBH UK? “Go fuck yourself.” If you had any balls, any creativity, could get out of the fricking limits of the ad world, then you would of had her say, “His boss.”

Why do I think everyone who worked on that particular ad is a hetero male?
Go F&%k Yourself is right.

Can someone get these people a life?
In the real world, the audience doesn’t get sucked into the vagina vortex.
They just witness a cute scenario and enjoy a chuckly punch line.
Hey folks. It’s only advertising.

I’m with the author. Just because it’s a cute chuckly punchline, doesn’t mean its not indicative of a serious problem in the advertising industry.
It’s kind of embarassing, I reckon. Can you imagine lawyers/medics/financial services/management consultants/teachers/civil servants/journalists not thinking that might be seen as a little trite?
What you charmingly describe as ‘The vagina vortex’ IS the real world, Will. They’re trying to recruit smart young people, both men and women. What they’ll get is people who think that’s a beautifully wry observation on the nature of ambition.
that’s a pretty mutually exclusive Venn diagram…
