AT&T, False Advertising And More Bars
August 27, 2007
AT&T is pulling their “fewest dropped calls” campaign. The ad campaign, which launched last March, was based on a Telephia report that actually noted AT&T Wireless (then Cingular) did not have the most reliable network in several major US cities. A report from Consumer Reports placed Cingular/AT&T at the bottom of their rankings for reliability. This ditching of the slogan also comes about a California resident named Jonathan C. Kaltwasser sued the telecom company for false advertising. Kaltwasser claims that he and other consumers were duped into believing the slogan was actually true. AT&T reported an increase of 1.4 million new customers in the third quarter when the slogan was launched.
Right, so now the new tagline will be”More bars. More places.” Wired.com got this response from Mark Segal, a spokesman for AT&T’s wireless business: “or some time now we have been transitioning the overall messaging of our advertising to what we call ‘more bars in more places’ because that’s the number one reason cited by folks when they think about a high quality network. And more bars in more places translates into coverage — how much coverage does your network give you — and we have the largest digital wireless network in the country.”
So maybe they’re making the switch because they got caught lying or maybe, it’s really about some consumer feedback. Who knows? Either way, we’re not into the slogan “More bars. More places.” It just can’t compete with “Fewest Dropped Calls” right?

ATT and their store lied. These points are correct and apply to what happened to me.
True; My phone quit working by not connecting.
True; It also had a problem with the internal parts.
I went to an ATT store and they told me it was the phone and it was not warranteed anymore. The phone was bad and I needed to buy another phone. False; it was still on warranty.
False; Since ATT took over Cingular our phones do not get any bars to call out except on weekends or trying 6-10 times (or more) and then the talk is choppy and dropped.
My wife called ATT and they said we were the only ones complaining about it but said they just did and test and the tech said what we said was true and they would check the tower for wind damage. Their question was; why did we wait so long to complain?
It is still not working properly in Antioch Illinois after weeks/months of waiting.
I went to the ATT store where I bought the new phone and the greeter said; Do you live in the northwest side of town and I said yes. He said that they will have to build a tower or redirect the signal and there was nothing he could do.
This is a shell game. ATT is advertising the greatest service but it is an overstressed service and does not work. When it is cingular it was perfect for years. When they took it over and added their client base, I believe that they over loaded the service and have dropped calls and stop signs on my screen and no bars are a result of their phony advertisement

How would you go about letting the right people know how you got screwd over by att. my one and 1/2 month bill was 292.00 for one month. I also was informed I would be charged 15.00 a month for there modem and adapter until they got the rewards finished. This is just an outrage they can advertise what they do it is totally faulse
Thank you wendy

AT&T cuts my internet service.
They say that they’ve “upgraded” to this new fiberoptics system, and these “upgrades” are causing our intnernet go out out because I have not yet upgraded to the new system. I have no idea how all of that works out, but I DO know that some friends of mine got upgraded to the new servive free of charge.
They expect that I will believe the load of … they have given us, but because I am not completely stupid, I know that it all translates into:
“Give us more money, or we cut your internet service.”
I will submit a report to the Better Business Bereau (bbb.org), and if you feel that AT&T has ripped you off or violated your consumer rights, you should too.

AT&T sucks, it’s a shame, because I like the iphone, but AT&T service is worse the mobile service in third world countries I visit (which is why I have GSM anyways).
AT&T should be sued for poor service and false advertising.
