“I Quit”
August 23, 2007
The Chicago Tribune is reporting that President and CEO Dana Anderson of DDB Chicago has resigned for family-oriented reasons.
“I am very proud of my tenure and accomplishments at DDB, yet I want to take some time and be with my daughter before she leaves for college next year,” Anderson stated.
Now that she’s out, Rick Carpenter, DDB president and CEO of the LA office, will be taking over her position. Doesn’t that sound like hooey? Spend more time with your what – 17 year old daughter, before she leaves for school?
Okay… what’s the real story? You know what you’ve got to do dear readers. Help us out because this sounds like a load of BS. Email us at agencyspy at mediabistro dot com or use AIM – agencyspy.
Thanks!

Dana Anderson was in over her head. When she was promoted to president 6 years ago at FCB, people were excited because she was a personable planner with great ideas and incredible presentation skills. But she totally sucked as a leader and president. She did nothing. She was a no-show. How the hell she talked her way into the gig at DDB is beyond anyone who has ever worked under her. And she did exactly as many expected. Nothing. Which as the leader of a very large agency means losing valuable clients and creative talent. Well over half a billion in lost billings and a ruined creative reputation and she walks away with a boatload of cash. That’s what’s so wrong with our industry. You can run a billion-dollar agency into the ground and still be set for life. I feel sorry for the people who have to clean up the mess she left behind.
