White Kids Are Happier

Hmmm… white kids are happier. You’re not surprised are you? According to an extensive survey of 1,280 people ages 13-24 by The Associated Press and MTV, 72 percent of whites say they are happy with life in general, compared with 51 percent of Hispanics and 56 percent of blacks. Participants sited racism as being a huge factor in their happiness:

“Twenty-eight percent of minorities believe race will hurt them in the quest for a better life. Among whites, 20 percent feel their race will help in getting ahead.”

Yup. Racism still exists people. Here’s some other shocking stats:

- Sixty percent of white youths are happy with their sex lives, compared with 46 percent of minorities. Hmm… what’s that about?

- Barely half of the minority respondents say school makes them happy, contrasted with 60 percent of the whites. That makes sense considering the public education system is in the gutter.

- Fifty-one percent of minorities are happy with their jobs, compared with 64 percent of whites.

Maybe your next advertising campaign for this age bracket should be broken into two positions - one for the white kids, one for the brown kids. These kids are living on two different plans and we suggest, should be spoken to differently. Yes, we could get into why Hispanics and blacks are unhappier, but that’s a discussion for another day. You could also just hire real live actual minorities to help you create a campaign that speaks to this level of teen unhappiness. Sadly, the advertising industry is heavily white and even more so male. It shows in the advertising that is created. We need to change this as an industry if we want to stay relevant and do our clients any good at all.
