Apple Sued For Stealing Creative
July 19, 2007
Louis Psihoyos has filed a lawsuit against Apple claiming that an image in an recent advertising campaign is based on his work. The Colorado photographer took a picture of a man in a chair and Apple uses a similar image in their ads for the Apple TV (above). There are so many suits against major corporations from individuals claiming creative infringement, which are often bogus. However, Louis might have a leg to stand one as Apple tried to license the image, but an agreement could not be reached. As well, Apple has a rep for “stealing” work like the recent commercial for the iPhone. As the the blog MacUser points out: “This isn’t the first time Apple’s been accused of ripping off other properties for their ads. In 2005, an Apple ad featuring an Eminem song was accused of being too similar to an ad for shoe company Lugz, and in 2006, musical group The Postal Service took issue with Apple’s ad for its new Intel-based lineup, which was suspiciously similar to the music video for the band’s song Such Great Heights (in fact, both the ad and music video were created by the same filmmakers).”
