Good Kids Use Facebook. Bad Kids? MySpace.
June 28, 2007
When disseminating your message across social networking sites, be sure you got the right kids spending time with your brand. Danah Boyd is currently studying blogging and social networking and how users present themselves in ‘mediated contexts.’ She recently published a must read essay titled “Viewing American class divisions through Facebook and MySpace”. As design blog Core77 said: “good’ kids use Facebook and ‘bad’ kids use MySpace.” Like you didn’t know that… those Facebook kids all went to college. They’re going to be lawyers and dentists. The Myspace kids all want to be The Strokes or the next Dita Von Teese. Go figure. In any case, Boyd’s (who is a Phd candidate) study is must read for anyone trying to use these sites to their advantage. You can’t master what you don’t understand, yeah?
